This article reviews the antivirus trial version offerings of some of the main manufacturers of antivirus software. - AVG provides 30-day product trials with free support (which many competitors do not advertise) for both AVG Anti-Virus and AVG Internet Security. You can download not only without creating an account but also without accepting any cookies from the website.
- F-Secure Anti-Virus 2010 and F-Secure Internet Security 2010 are offered as free 30-day trials. Account creation prior to download requires name, email address and country, with access to a newsletter being optional. Download instructions are sent to the email address you supply.
- G Data 30-day trial offer for G Data AntiVirus 2010 and G Data InternetSecurity 2010 is available with no sign-up and no account: simply download from the free trial version page on the G Data site.
- Kaspersky offers 30-day product trials of its Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 and Anti-Virus 2010, in 1-User and 3-User modes, as applicable. To download the trial, you need to enter your email address. You have the option to receive product update and other information or not.
- McAfee offers 30-Day free trial versions of McAfee AntiVirus Plus and McAfee Total Protection. To download the trial software, you need to create an account (including your name, email address, and a password) or log into an existing account and agree to the McAfee End User License Agreement. You may optionally choose to receive virus alerts and information on McAfee or McAfee partner promotions.
- Norton AntiVirus 2010 and Norton Internet Security 2010 are available as free trial software for 30 days in an opt-out set-up. Note that you must accept cookies, set up an account with contact information and provide a credit card to get to the download, and that Symantec will automatically charge your credit card after 30 days, unless you cancel your opt-out trial prior to the end of the trial.
- Panda Antivirus Pro 2010 and Panda Internet Security 2010 are both offered as free downloads to try. The trial length is designated as "1 month" which is confusing, since a month can run from 28 to 31 days. During this month, the downloader receives free services including antivirus updates and tech support via email, forum, and Internet. One must create an account, including name, email, identification as a home or corporate user, location, and number of computers. The option to receive further information is optional, but one must accept the license agreement.
- Vipre Antivirus is made available for a free 30-day trial by download by Sunbelt Software. The free trial requires entry of an email address, and includes phone support and optional subscription to Sunbelt Security News. The download may be installed on all home PCs.
- Webroot Antivirus with Spy Sweeper 2010 and Webroot Internet Security Essentials 2010. While the first offers to run a free scan, only the second offers a free trial download. Required for the free trial, the length of which is not indicated, is one's name and email address. One is sent a download link via email. Note that the Webroot product page advertises their need for beta testers, an opportunity to make a difference in product quality, completeness, and freedom from bugs.
